The EU Commission is doubling down on its promise to provide further clarification and simplifications for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), thereby replying to feedback from key industry demands and international partners.
In a recent press release, the EU Commission has announced the latest updates to the EUDR, which include:
Large companies can now reuse existing due diligence statements for reimported goods that were previously placed on the EU market.
Authorized representatives can now submit due diligence statements on behalf of members of company groups.
Companies are now allowed to submit due diligence statements annually instead of for every shipment or batch placed on the EU market
Clarification of the term 'Ascertaining that due diligence has been exercised‘ to simplify obligations for large downstream companies. The minimal legal obligation for large downstream companies is to collect and use DDS reference numbers from their suppliers for their own DDS submissions
It is estimated that these measures will lead to a 30% reduction in administrative costs and burdens for companies to ensure a simpler and cost-efficient implementation of the EUDR.
