The EUDR requires companies importing/exporting relevant commodities or products into the EU to ensure they are EUDR-compliant and deforestation-free after 30 December 2024.
Nadar supports Original Beans and APPCACAO in ensuring deforestation-free and EUDR-compliant cocoa sourcing in Peru through reliable satellite-powered maps.
The Dutch craft chocolate manufacturer Original Beans and the Peruvian cocoa trade association APPCACAO have partnered with nadar to ensure deforestation-free and EUDR-compliant cocoa sourcing in Peru.
Nadar's end-to-end EUDR software supports Original Beans and APPCACAO in mapping their cacao farms quicker and easier, knowing with confidence which farms have contributed to deforestation and gathering required due diligence information for EU authorities.
Nadar, Original Beans, and APPCACAO have partnered up in a collaboration with mutual goals:
Original Beans is a Dutch chocolate manufacturer sourcing cocoa from from all around the world. Since 2008, Original Beans has ventured into remote rainforests to source the world’s rarest and fairest cacao beans from Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania.
Original Beans makes some of the world’s best chocolate from the rarest and fairest cacao beans and preserves these beans and their forest environments for future chocolate lovers. They’ve won all the major taste awards, are a favorite of top chefs, and have streamlined every aspect of the business to be people and planet-positive.
Original Beans is a pioneer in sustainable cocoa:
In Peru, they work with APPCACAO, the national trade association that represents Peruvian cacao producers on national and international policy issues that are important to the cacao sector. APPCACAO facilitates trade by providing information about cacao offerings on behalf of its partner cooperatives. They work with over 30.000 cacao-producing families to support the certification and sales of cacao to international markets and design capacity-building programs in cooperation with international partners. APPCACAO acts as a connector, promoting Peruvian cacao and helping interested buyers find the best cacao in Peru.
Nadar checked the Peruvian cacao farms for deforestation under the EUDR using proprietary forest and deforestation maps powered by vast amounts of satellite imagery. Our reliable satellite-powered maps better differentiate natural forests from cacao plantations, and can thus better grasp the complex reality of cacao production with agroforestry systems and shade trees in Latin America.
Nadar's maps reduce false deforestation alerts (false positives) from public data sources that stem from misclassification of cacao systems as natural forests and false deforestation alerts through pruning of cacao trees or plantation renewal.
Thanks to Nadar's reliable deforestation checks, our partners can protect their supply chain and achieve confidence on which farms have contributed to deforestation under the EU Deforestation Regulation.
"What makes Nadar so special is that it is very easy to use in the field and that the platform focuses on the important data points and checks for EUDR compliance without overcomplicating things.”
- Jan-Marcel Schubert, Conservation Cacao Leader, Original Beans
Organizations of all sizes can streamline compliance with Nadar's satellite-powered EUDR and traceability platform. Nadar supports in mapping farm geolocation data, delivers reliable deforestation monitoring, verifies your geolocation data, and provides official due diligence statements for EU authorities.
Streamline your data collection process by integrating existing geodata from your suppliers or newly mapping farm plots within the Nadar platform. Import geolocation data yourself or delegate the task to your suppliers by inviting them to the Nadar platform.
Geolocation data itself doesn’t automatically mean compliance. 7/10 of our clients’ geodata files have serious quality issues and should not be sent to the EU as-is. Check your geodata quality in real-time with Nadar’s software platform and enhance your field data for the EUDR.
Public datasets have a high probability of false deforestation alerts that risk disrupting your supply chain. Nadar’s reliable monitoring combines open source data and enhances it with our proprietary machine learning models to achieve market-leading accuracy. Cross-check high risk farms with nadar’s proprietary satellite maps that are aligned with the EUDR.
We provide official due diligence statements in GeoJSON format that you can submit to the EU Information System TRACES to demonstrate compliance. Nadar can submit the due diligence statements on your behalf as your authorised representative.
